Push to end violence is Liga legacy

-

Andrew Jordan has been to hell and back since she vanished more than a month ago after leaving a remote yoga retreat in southern India to buy cigarettes.

Dubliner Andrew finally learned how she died yesterday when autopsy results confirmed the 33-year-old Latvian was strangled.

Her mutilated body was discovered in a remote mangrove forest more than a week ago.

But despite the horrific ordeal that he and Liga’s families have been through, Andrew has shown great dignity and generosity of spirit throughout.

He has managed to see the good in people, even giving police credit despite the feeling she might still be alive today had they initially taken his and Liga’s sister Ilze’s fears more seriously.

Andrew also paid tribute to the “unbelievable” locals who have rallied around him since the tragedy unfolded, lauding them for their kindness and support.

And his plan to set up a retreat centre to help victims of violence is to be commended.

He said: “There is huge violence against women here and I’m going to dedicate the rest of my life to helping them... my focus now is on violence against women.”

If just one good thing can come from this awful tragedy it is that other females would not suffer the same fate as his tragic partner.

That is Liga’s legacy.
