-

GARDAI have launched an investigation into the death of a pensioner after she was hit by a farm vehicle.

The 75-year-old woman, named locally as Chrissie Treacy, and single and with no children, was struck on her farm near Boula on the outskirts of Portumna, Co Galway, on Friday.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Portumna parish priest Fr Michael Byrne said the community has been left stunned by the tragedy.

He added: “You can imagine, a small community, we all know each other. There is a genuine level of shock as there is a deep sadness.”
