Pensioner is assaulted in school raid

GARDAI are on the alert after a pensioner was attacked and robbed during a burglary at a school yesterday.

The woman in her 70s was taken to University Hospital in Galway after the incident in Colaiste Einde in Salthill.

Gardai are looking for a man in his 20s who broke into the school around 6.45am and ransacked a number of areas before being confronted by the woman who happened to be in the building.

The man knocked her to the ground before taking her valuables and fleeing.

The woman’s injuries are not understood to be serious.
