GABRIEL WON’T RUSH TO COMMIT HIMSELF AT ETIHAD

- BY SIMON MULLOCK

BRAZILIAN boy wonder Gabriel Jesus insists he will not be rushed into signing a new contract at Manchester City.

The Premier League champions were hoping to tie their 21-year-old striker to a new £90,000-a-week deal before the World Cup. But Jesus, who still has three years left on the £65,000-a-week contract he signed when he agreed to join City from Palmeiras nearly two years ago, decided to wait when he was offered an extension in March.

And he is still in no hurry to put pen to paper – despite insisting he is happy with life at the Etihad.

Jesus said: “The new contract offer was something that came from the club, but I didn’t think it was the right time to speak about it because we had big games still to play. I decided I couldn’t think about it at that time because it wasn’t where my mind was at.

“Now, at the end of the season, I have still got a long time ahead of me, so I still don’t want to think about it.

“When the time comes to talk about it, we will talk about it. I am extremely happy here, with my personal life and my achievements.”

City feel Jesus deserves a pay rise after hitting 22 goals in 49 appearances for the club.

But a successful World Cup in Russia with Brazil this summer would see his value rocket.
