1933: The FA Cup Final between Everton and Manchester City was the first where players had shirt numbers. The Toffees wore one to 11, and City were 12 to 22. Everton won 3-0.

1967: Muhammad Ali was stripped of his world heavyweigh­t title for refusing to be drafted into the US Army on religious grounds.

1990: Stephen Hendry defeated Jimmy White 18-12 to become the

youngest world snooker champion at the age of 21 years and 106 days. 2003: Former Chelsea and Manchester United keeper Mark Bosnich was banned for nine months after a failed drugs test for cocaine. 2007: Sam Allardyce resigned as Bolton manager after eight years at the club. 2009: Mclaren were handed a suspended three-race ban over the ‘lie-gate’ scandal which hit the team at the season-opening Australian GP.
