TWO BIKERS TREATED IN HOSPITAL AFTER ROAD RACE SMASH HORROR

TWO road racers were last night being treated in hospital following a four-bike smash at a top event.

One of the competitor­s at the Tandagree 100 was airlifted by the Charity Air Ambulance to Belfast’s Royal Victoria.

It is understood the accident took place at Castle Corner in the popular Co Armagh event’s Junior Support Race.

A spokesman for paramedics said they were alerted just after noon. He added: “The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service attended an incident at the Tandragee motorcycle races today.

“NIAS received a 999 call at 12.24pm following an incident involving a number of motorcycle­s.

“A Rapid Response Paramedic was dispatched to the scene and the Charity Air Ambulance was also tasked. Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene the patient was transporte­d to hospital by voluntary ambulance who were providing medical cover at the races.

“Another patient was taken by the Charity Air Ambulance to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.”
