Arena ‘hero’s’ mum in €4k theft
THE mum of a man who stole from victims of the Manchester Arena bombing has admitted taking £3,847 (€4,347) from a charity.
Jessica Parker, 58, stole the sum from the Sea Palling voluntary lifeboat in Norfolk when she worked as its secretary.
Her homeless son Chris Parker, 33, had been hailed a hero after claiming he helped victims of the May 2017 terror attack.
But he later admitted stealing an injured teenager’s mobile phone and a purse from wounded Pauline Healey, 67, as her granddaughter Sorrell Leczkowski, 14, lay dying.
The suicide bombing left 22 people dead and more than 500 injured.
Parker, who took photos of victims and used Mrs Healey’s bank card in a Mcdonald’s, was jailed for four years and three months in January.
Mother Jessica faces sentencing on May 25 after admitting 10 counts of fraud by abuse of a position of trust.
Norwich magistrates heard how she took almost £4,000 from the lifeboat charity between March 7 and June 30, 2016. Prosecutor Andrew Nickerson said she flew “off the handle” when asked about the cash, but could not explain bank irregularities.
