Hoods and Beano annuals I have an original Hoods comic annual dated 1877. It is priced at one shilling, is in quite good condition for its age and has all the pages. Question is... what is it worth? Brett Dungey, by email Thomas Hood was a journalist and poet and the annual was launched in 1831. In good condition, it might be worth £10 to £20. Always look for the signs which devalue an annual – if the corner price tag has been cut out, if there is a scrawled dedication or child’s name, whether the crosswords have been filled-in or crayon drawn on the pictures and whether the spine is damaged. There is big money to be had in certain annuals. The Beano Book number one from 1938 is highly desired, while the Dandy number one – called The Dandy Monster Comic – once sold for £3,970.
