2008: Free national screening project Cervicalcheck announced.
2010: US firm wins the contract to provide laboratory services.
2011: Vicky Phelan wrongly receives the all-clear.
2014: Co Limerick mum is diagnosed with cancer.
2015: The HSE decides results of the review should be passed on to women “as appropriate”.
2016: Cervicalcheck says revised results should be added to patients’ files.
September 2017: Vicky learns her cancer was missed through a chance reading of her file. November 2017: A routine scan reveals her cancer is back. January 2018: She is told she has up to 12 months to live. April 25, 2018: Vicky is awarded €2.5million after a legal case. April 27: The HSE says 206 smear tests should have resulted in earlier intervention. April 30: The HSE reveals 162 women – including 17 who died – were not told of a diagnosis delay. May 1: Dail told an extra 1,500 women with cancer did not have earlier negative tests rechecked.
