Terminally-ill Vicky still waiting on €2.5m settlement
THE woman who brought the smear test scandal to public attention still hasn’t received settlement money. Mother-of-three Vicky Phelan, 43, from Limerick found out she had terminal cervical cancer in 2014 after a 2011 test result was found to be incorrect. Vicky, left, was awarded €2.5million, made without admission of liability, against Clinical Pathology Labs, Austin, Texas in the High Court in April. She was forced to fundraise €8,500 per treatment every three weeks.
Vicky said: “I haven’t received settlement money so I am still using funds raised to pay for alternative therapies.”
