Centres given shredders to fight ID fraud
SHREDDING machines have been put in community centres in the battle to stop fraudsters stealing people’s identities.
They are at four centres in Lincolnshire so residents can destroy their personal documents,
North East Lincolnshire Council said more gangs are raiding bins for papers revealing names, dates of birth and national insurance numbers.
The council’s Ian Boyd said: “Those at the top of organised crime groups employ people to go around the bins scavenging for people’s details.”
He said the council deals with about 40 complaints every month.
