OTHER ONE) MAKES EVERY MINUTE COUNT

-

the horizon, Maguire is hoping his work is not over yet.

He said: “To play every minute of every game, it will have been a dream season.

“I couldn’t really have wished for it to have gone much better.

“If someone had said that to me at the start of the season – that I would play every game, win the club award, and represent my country, I would have been rubbing my eyes, thinking it was a dream.

“It’s not up to me to put pressure on the manager, but if he did leave me out at Wembley, I might be having a word in his ear – it gives me real pleasure to be able to say I played every minute this season.

“People have said, ‘You should have a rest’, but I want to play every minute. Now I’d like to see the dream extended at the biggest tournament in the world.

“As a boy, you do dream of playing for your country at a World Cup, so, yes, I’ll be living the dream if that happens.

“We’ve got to wait and keep our fingers crossed that I’m injury-free and just hope, like a lot of players, that I’m picked.”

He added: “Four years ago, I was with Sheffield United, watching the World Cup on TV.

“I’m sure I was on holiday in Tenerife when we were in Brazil. I remember seeing at least one of the games when I was away.

“But I actually went to the Euros as a supporter. I went over to France with a few of my mates a couple of years ago to watch the Slovakia game. It finished 0-0, but it wasn’t the greatest. I’ve been to a few matches with my family, growing up.

“Again, it’s another one of those where you wonder if it is actually happening to you.”

As for lining up against England colleague Harry Kane today, Maguire said: “We had a good battle at the King Power and we were victorious, so I will settle for a repeat of that.”
