Dead dog dumped in bin bag on beach
AN animal welfare group has hit out at the cruelty of whoever left a dead dog on the beach for the tide to wash to sea.
Louth Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals condemed the act. Inspector Fiona Squibb said: “There is no excuse, it is awful.”
She was called to the scene at Seabank, south of Dundalk, on Thursday after a member of the public made the grim find. Fiona added: “He was at the water’s edge and the tide was coming in so he’d have been washed away.
“There were drag marks on the stones so someone came in a car and dragged him down.”
The labrador, who had no visible signs of injury, was inside a large black plastic bag and lying on a blue blanket.
Fiona told how it was “an older dog”. She said: “He is a well-fed dog and healthy looking, obviously a cared for family pet. To throw him aside like rubbish is just appalling.”
She has appealed to anyone with a dead animal to ask for help from a vet.
The SPCA has brought the dog to one for proper disposal.
