Author goes from broke to €millions
WHEN Paula Hawkins wrote her international bestseller The Girl On The Train, the ex-journalist was broke and surviving on handouts from her dad.
Five years later, her company is raking in €50,000 a day from book and film royalties – making her the seventh highest paid author on the Forbes Rich List.
Latest accounts show the firm made €16.7million in the year ending July 31, 2017 – up by €2.3million on 2016.
A profit before tax was reported at €14.4million, with Hawkins receiving €943,000 in dividends and €12,770 in director’s pay.
Meanwhile, a whopping €25million is simply sitting in the accounts as retained earnings.
