Cash plea for priest shot in Peru robbery
Fr Desmond A CAMPAIGN to replace funds stolen from an Irish priest robbed at gunpoint in Peru has almost reached its target in under a week.
Fr Gerard Desmond was shot in both legs and had to have 14 stitches to the head after he was hit with the butt of a revolver by armed robbers on April 28.
The 70-year-old had just withdrawn €1,655 to pay the wages of labourers building the district’s only primary school when the raiders took the cash.
His nephew Michael Kelleher has set up a Gofundme page and so far more than €1,100 of the €1,700 target has been raised.
