It’s D-day for Bruce with Villa

- BY JOHN RICHARDSON

STEVE BRUCE’S future could be sorted out this week in crunch talks with Aston Villa owner Tony Xia.

Xia is considering the manager’s position.

And Bruce is also understood to be questioning whether he should stay on.

He kept Villa’s promotion bid on course, despite the death of both his parents in quick succession.

Xia has told Leicester City it will cost them £40million to sign midfield star Jack Grealish, who is seen as a replacement if Riyad Mahrez is sold.

Failure in the Championship play-off final at Wembley last weekend against Fulham has left Villa and their Chinese owner in crisis.

They are struggling to meet EFL financial play regulations, which insist Championship clubs can’t lose more than £39m over a three-season period.

A number of stars must go – including Holte End favourite Grealish – to reduce a wage bill that sees some players on more than £60,000 a week.
