CRACKS IT! his troops all ready for the storming of Russia

-

the pace off Raheem Sterling’s shot before Leon Balogun turned it behind and, when Eric Dier’s header wasn’t dealt with, John Stones thought opportunity was about to knock.

Somehow, Nigeria scrambled it away, but already England could sense the visitors were there for the taking.

Sterling caused more trouble with a lovely turn that left Troost-ekong’s head spinning, but his dinked effort was wide.

Then Dele Alli combined with Spurs team-mate Kieran Trippier, who found Jesse Lingard, but credit to Uzoho who did well at his near post.

Lingard again found himself in round the back, but Balogun cleared from close range, with Sterling loitering, and the latter’s low centre, aimed for Trippier, was blocked by Uzoho.

If only Sterling’s finishing could match his build-up play, he would be a world-beater.

Unsurprisingly, it was the Manchester City star who fed Kane a five-yard pass on the edge of the Nigeria box and the skipper obliged with the finish.

His low attempt should not have troubled a non-league keeper, let alone an international, but Uzoho somehow let it squirm in.

It looked like the floodgates would open in the second half, but Rohr made four changes at the break and within two minutes they pulled one back.

Iwobi clipped a good ball into Odion Ighalo. The ex-watford striker showed lovely quick feet to bring it down and his shot rebounded out to Iwobi who confidently sidefooted home.

But England never looked like conceding again.
