Imagine

- Kev

I know I am lucky (well, I made my own luck) because I insured myself many years ago against getting cancer – a bet I did not want to win but I did and, as a result, I have had a few quid to make memories for my family while I can.

I decided to go to New York as a once-in-mylifetime experience and give my youngest boy the opportunity to see things there while he’s 40 years younger than me. I hope that he has picked up much from the trip.

I could not help but be moved by the 9/11 Memorial. No matter what you think about politics and religion, I would defy anyone to not walk away so sad about the wasted lives yet so inspired to live their own better from that moment on.

To try to put it in words, I cried more there than I did at my dad’s recent funeral and I loved my dad – that’s how much it got me.

Later we went to see where John Lennon died. Another senseless murder but, again, his passing has inspired so many, including me, to think about what could be and not just accept injustice.

Next on to Ellis Island where so many immigrants arrived, risking all and facing so much hardship to get to what they believed would be a better place. It was yet another thought-provoking experience. We all loved New York and came away with something unexpected too – being inspired to be more tolerant, to do better in the face of adversity and believe in ourselves even when we face doubt from naysayers.

I hope you don’t let life pass you by. Do something good to make a difference. We all fall short sometimes but not even trying is, in my opinion, inexcusable. Until next week,

Don’t let life pass you by. Try to do something good to make a difference.
