Workers ‘going hungry to pay rent’

MORE than half of young Irish workers are going without food to pay the rent, a new survey by the Irish Congress of Trade Unions revealed.

The online poll of 1,500 members under the age of 34 found one in two were going without essentials to keep a roof over their head. Labour’s Jan O’sullivan said the findings “paint a bleak picture of what it’s like to rent”.

She added: “This Government needs to wake up to the fact thousands of young citizens are frightened they will be faced with homelessness.”
