Rowling calls for orphanages ban
HARRY Potter author J K Rowling wants an end to orphanages.
She claims children “all over the world are being severely harmed” by them.
The writer, 52, said even those run well have a detrimental impact on health and development.
Rowling, founder of international children’s organisation Lumos, said: “Good conditions and qualified staff can’t replace the love, support and stability children get from a family.” She told an EU No Child Left Behind conference: “We need to
Author Rowling stop money going to institutions and redirect it to alternatives that strengthen families.”
Lumos chief Georgette Mulheir said children were “being traded, sexually abused and, in the worst cases, killed for profit” in the global orphanage industry”.
