Truce after peace talks in Nicaragua

-

A CEASEFIRE has been called after weeks of violence in Nicaragua that left 170 people dead.

The government and opposition groups have agreed the truce and a truth commission will be established and international investigators welcomed.

The peace talks were brokered by the Catholic Church.

The rallies began in April after the government imposed cuts to pension and social security programmes.

The move was later scrapped but the protests evolved into a rejection of the government and thousands took to the streets.
