FAKE football kits worth almost €240,000 have been seized by watchdogs as the World Cup kicks off.

Thousands of counterfei­t shirts from top teams including Real Madrid have been prevented from entering the UK market.

Trading Standards intercepte­d 12,000 footie strips at East Midlands Airport.

A spokesman said: “Unsuspecti­ng football fans can fall victim to purchasing fake and sometimes unsafe goods during the World Cup.”
