200 march in ‘Orgreave probe’ demo
MARCHERS yesterday issued new calls for an inquiry into police action at the so-called Battle of Orgreave during the 1984 miners’ strike.
Two hundred attended a rally to mark tomorrow’s anniversary of bloody clashes between thousands of miners and police.
Mounted officers were filmed charging ranks of strikers outside a coking plant in South Yorkshire.
Some of the 95 pitmen arrested were at yesterday’s demo and marched past the site of the plant – now a housing estate.
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn sent this message: “The brutality of Orgreave will not be forgotten.
“A Labour government will hold an inquiry so the truth and justice will come out.”
