RASH STILL HURTS

- BY SIMON MULLOCK

MARCUS RASHFORD will carry the scars of England’s Euro 2016 humiliation into the World Cup — as a constant reminder of what failure feels like.

The Manchester United striker was one of the few successes of the French farce which saw the Three Lions tamed by the rank underdogs of Iceland two summers ago.

Rashford, 20, said: “You always keep disappointments like that with you, because you never want to feel them again.

“You can see that everyone is quite relaxed. Leading up to the Euros it wasn’t anywhere near as relaxed. There was a lot more tension, and we all know what happened. This is much better. It is something new.

“Personally I am more experienced now and a lot more comfortable than I was.”

The Manchester-born forward’s progress at Old Trafford under Jose Mourinho hasn’t been as serene.

But Rashford feels he is a better player for the experience – especially when he used in the central striker’s role.

He added: “My favourite position is down the middle.

“I always want to score goals and playing central gives me more opportunities to do that.

“But to become the all-round player you have to play through the middle and out wide.”
