A furious Marwijk blasted: “I hoped that this one time there would be a referee who is very honest.

“I saw him standing there. The body language was that he didn’t know. Then you have to take a decision – France or Australia?

“I didn’t see it back on TV and from my position I thought it was no penalty.

“After the game I got a lot of reactions. Let’s say from 10 people, seven say ‘penalty’ and three say ‘no penalty’.

“But the referee is also a human being and everybody makes mistakes. You have to ask him.”
