Past glory is history for Oscar
Costa Rica v Serbia Today, Group E, ITV, 1pm
COSTA RICA are determined to surprise the world again when they kick off their campaign.
The Central Americans were a revelation at the World Cup in Brazil, reaching the quarter-finals on the back of resilient defensive organisation.
Ahead of today’s game against Serbia, Ramirez said: “It is different this time. 2014 is over, it is our biggest achievement ever in a World Cup but it is another story. Our story starts with our first match.”
Defender Giancarlo Gonzalez, who scored in the shoot-out win over Greece in the last-16 four years ago, echoed his coach’s thoughts.
He said: “The last World Cup is the past for us, it is ancient history. We need to write a new chapter for us, for Costa Rica.”
