Vatican gives priest 5years for child porn
A CATHOLIC priest who admitted possessing child pornography has been sentenced to five years in jail by a Vatican court.
Carlo Alberto Capella, 51, will serve his sentence in the small jail inside the Vatican police force’s HQ.
Capella admitted developing a “morbid” desire after taking up a diplomatic post at the Vatican’s US embassy in Washington in 2016.
“It was never part of my priestly life before,” he told the court.
The US State Department informed the Vatican in August last year of a possible violation of child pornography laws.
The US had wanted Capella’s diplomatic immunity removed so he could be prosecuted there, but the Vatican refused.
