I feel guilty after fling

Should I tell my husband about a very short fling I had a couple of years ago? It’s eating away at me. I would love to be honest with him, but it will hurt him. I’m so sorry I did it. I was stupid.

I am of the view that sometimes a zeal to be honest can actually be a selfish desire to offload your guilt, at the cost of someone else’s unhappiness. You might feel better, but you’ll hurt your husband and wreck the trust. Is he likely to ever find out? If so, then tell him rather than have him hear gossip. If not, it might be better to keep your guilt to yourself. If the tables were turned, would you want to know?
