What’s it worth?

- JAMIE BREESE

Q I have a Ditmar Urbach ceramic polar bear at an ice pool. Can you tell me how much it is worth? It is in very good condition. Julie Daniels, via email A Your ceramic piece is actually an ashtray and is broadly classed as Bohemian Art Pottery from Czechoslovakia. The colours are crisp with this piece and polar bears are, of course, a popular subject to collect. It was made in the Art Deco era of the 1920s and 30s. It’s an attractive piece and considered quite rare and should fetch somewhere between €100 and €150, depending on condition.

Q

Can you help? I have quite a few copies of Woman’s Weekly from 1964 to 1978, plus copies of Woman’s Realm and The People’s Friend from 1978-81. I wonder what they are worth? Mrs M Cavarra, via email A Believe it or not, I used to write about antiques and collectables for Woman’s Weekly! That said, I must be honest and say that your copies will only be worth a few pounds and advertising them as a job lot should determine their market value. Magazines, as a general rule of thumb, tend not to have such a great value when considered alongside comics and books.

Q

I have sent you pictures of some of my Corgi model cars for valuation. Most of them are military vehicles and in their original packaging. What do you think? Ms Jayne Richards, via email A Your first vehicle is a Royal Navy Bedford QLT Troop Carrier Truck from 1944. It’s from the World War II collection and from the photos looks to be in as-new condition. It’s probably worth in the region of €20 to €30. You also have a model of a Churchill MKIV tank, as used by the former Soviet Army in Operation Barbarossa – which repelled the invading Germany army in 1941. It’s worth a little more – €30 to €40, or so.
