GAUNT and frail with just months to live, former Eastenders star Leslie Grantham still musters his trademark menacing glare in his final screen role.

Our exclusive images show the late Dirty Den actor in his last scenes, playing legendary Scotland Yard detective Nipper Read battling to bring down the notorious Kray twins.

Grantham died two weeks ago aged 71. He had filmed the role just four months earlier.

Sources said the veteran actor appeared fragile and had to be ferried around in a car on set during filming of The Krays: Dead Man Walking.

Grantham plays Det Chief Supt Leonard “Nipper” Read, of the Metropolitan Police’s murder squad – the man credited with finally bringing the gangster brothers to justice in 1969.

In one scene he snarls at them: “I’m going to nail the pair of you, you know that. Your downfall is my life’s mission.”
