Mandela’s boy: My Jacko parties

-

NELSON Mandela’s grandson has told of how he enjoyed garden parties with Michael Jackson at the president’s mansion.

Ndaba Mandela was 11 when he was whisked from poverty in Soweto to live with the late South African leader.

“It was huge to see such a big pop star and say, ‘Hi Michael, how are you?’” said Ndaba, now 36.

“That’s when it really began to sink in – that my grandfather was The Man.”

Ndaba, who has released his memoir Going To The Mountain, revealed his grandad called Britain’s

Nelson Mandela monarch Elizabeth. After a phone call had ended, Nelson’s wife Graça scolded him for being so informal.

“What are you talking about?” he replied with a grin. “She calls me Nelson. We always call each other by our first names.

“Don’t forget, I’m royalty. I’m a Thembu prince.”
