RTE shoot gritty drama from the team behind Love/hate

sounds promising all the same. Anyhow… Detective Rooney’s investigation brings her into a twilight world of the new Ireland where slum landlords and criminals prey on the vulnerable. Now that sounds more Detective Rooney like the gritty art imitating life sort of stuff we’re used to. And there’s another common thread – Brian Gleeson, who played Hughie “Cueball” Power in the first season of Love/ Hate is also among the cast for Taken Down. He’s joined by Lynn Rafferty who played Nadine and Jimmy Smallhorne who had the role of ill-fated IRA letcher Christopher “Git” Loughman. RTE’S head of drama Jane Gogan said: “This new series has the promise of something special. The story of Taken Down brings us into a world where opportunism meets the forces of Irish and globalised crime. “This story is very much of the moment and I’m looking forward to introducing Taken Down to RTE’S audiences.” Sunday night viewing just hasn’t been the same since Nidge took a bullet in the season five finale of Love/hate in 2014. Striking Out and Acceptable Risk made a ham-fisted stab at filling the gap but they haven’t come close to touching the glory days of Love/hate. RTE will announce further details on ‘Taken Down’ at its new season launch in August.
