VAR would have caught out Diego

IT would matter not a jot if Diego Maradona made like Al Pacino in Scarface, buried his head in a Himalayan pile of narcotics and bounced around his hospitality box naked.

Who really cares? And who really knows what his recreational habits are?

But two things are certain. Maradona (above) was one of the world’s greatest players – and a cheat.

And when he cheated against England, he was cheating fellow professionals who were chasing a dream on the greatest stage.

Successful cheating of that magnitude will never be allowed to happen again at the World Cup.

That is why the arguments against VAR should be derailed before any sign of a head of steam, never mind that it has been a success here in Russia.
