Man, 70, pays for using pot to ease pain

- BY ROD MALCOLM

A GRANDAD with no criminal record has paid a price in court for growing cannabis to ease the pain of sciatica and arthritis.

Malcolm Voce, 70, was only charged after his home was burgled and police saw his crop.

Nottingham magistrates gave him a conditional discharge but he was told to pay €85 prosecution costs and a €20 government surcharge.

He has suffered sciatica for 40 years and also has arthritis in his left hand.

Emma Wyborn, defending, said a fellow victim told him of cannabis’s benefits and he decided to grow it at home in Bulwell, Nottingham.

She said he was ashamed to be in court and now buys a legal treatment containing cannabis oil.
