Family fined for flogging dodgy gold
A FAMILY of jewellers have been fined around €38,000 for selling counterfeit gold.
Abdul Rashid Bhatti and sons Suhail and Assimi claimed items with no hallmark were 22 carat.
Their shop in Southall, West London, was swooped on twice last year by Ealing trading standards inspectors.
The three men pleaded guilty to hallmarking offences and were fined a total of €38,000.
An Ealing Council spokesman said the fines “will raise awareness among customers that they should always look for visual confirmation before buying anything”.
