After cream of crop, can I save strawbs?

-

What should I do with my strawberry plants once I have harvested all the fruit? Martin Smith, Newbury

DAVID: Remove any straw or matting you’ve been using to protect strawberries from the earth, and trim away dead leaves. The plant will send out runners over the surface of the soil which can be pegged down. In August, once the runners have established, they can be cut away from the parent plant and transplanted ready for next year.
