Former TD O’donoghue dies aged 85

FORMER minister and Fianna Fail TD Martin O’donoghue died yesterday at the age of 85.

He was mourned by party leader Micheal Martin in a touching tribute where he described him as a “true gentleman”.

He said Mr O’donoghue “was a committed public representa­tive who had a long and distinguis­hed career in national politics”.

Mr Martin added: “On my own behalf and on behalf of Fianna Fail I want to extend my deepest condolence­s to his wife Evelyn, children Audrey, Raphael and Tressan, and brother Tom.”

Mr O’donoghue was an economic adviser to Taoiseach Jack Lynch before being elected as a TD in 1977.
