President barely survives disaster week & now new blimp on horizon

-

IT’S been a bad week for US President Donald Trump. He’s courted controversy since taking up office but the events of the past seven days have been bewildering even by his standards. It began with Trump’s disastrous press conference in Helsinki with Putin in which he sought to cast the Russian interference in the 2016 election as at least partly America’s fault. Tuesday was consumed by the debate over whether he meant “would” or “wouldn’t” when he spoke about Russia meddling. Then came the inevitable – Trump blamed the “fake news media” and insisted he’d been “very strong” with Putin, who he said is welcome at the White House anytime. On Thursday, Time magazine unveiled the cover of its latest issue featuring a photo of President Trump and Vladamir Putin morphed into one person. Days earlier in the UK The Donald breached protocol by walking in front of the Queen – after keeping her waiting for tea. But the royal eclipse was itself overshadowed by the 20ft baby Trump blimp which flew over the Houses of Parliament in London. The president admitted it made him feel unwelcome before blasting British Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit strategy, then flew to Scotland for some golf at one of his luxury resorts in Turnberry. Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon refused to meet him – and the infamous blimp depicting the US president as a nappy-clad baby holding a mobile phone followed him to Edinburgh. It emerged in the last 48 hours Trump was secretly recorded discussing a payoff to a former Playboy model who claimed she had an affair with him. According to reports his long-standing lawyer Michael Cohen taped the conversation two months before the 2016 election.
