Facebook in Canadian Inuit service move
FACEBOOK is setting up services to allow Canadian Inuit people to use the social media platform in their own language.
The announcement – on the Nunavut Day public holiday – means settings for Inuktut dialects should be in place by next year.
Facebook is urging users to submit their own translations for the Like or Share button.
Eventually a consensus will be reached for use in the final version.
President of the region’s indigenous rights group Aluki Kotierk said: “Creating space on social media is one way we can continue to see our language thriving.”
