Mcgregor will avoid going to jail under new deal condition
Conor Mcgregor UFC star Conor Mcgregor is close to making a deal in his New York City court case that will keep him out of jail.
The 30-year-old is due back in court on Thursday and TMZ reports prosecutors have agreed to reduce Mcgregor’s felony charge to a misdemeanor, meaning he will avoid permanent deportation from the US.
The former two-weight champion was charged with one count of felony criminal mischief and three counts of misdemeanor assault after an incident in April at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Mcgregor appeared to attack a bus carrying multiple UFC fighters, including now-lightweight champion and rival Khabib Nurmagamedov.
The American entertainment news site said: “The deal is not finalised, but we’re told negotiations are down to the ‘fine points’. If it doesn’t fall apart, the deal should be finalised in a matter of days.”
Two fighters were forced to pull out from the UFC 223 card with injuries sustained in the incident, while Khabib was uninjured and would go on to win the title Mcgregor had been stripped off days earlier.
