TAKE OFF LEASH AND POG WILL BITE

-

PAUL POGBA looked a different player for France during the World Cup than he did last season for Manchester United.

At times last year he was more famous for his hairstyles than his football.

For whatever reason, United didn’t see the best of him but in Russia for four weeks he looked like a leader.

Maybe United boss Jose Mourinho needs to find the right formula, the right formation, to bring the best out of the Frenchman.

With France he was allowed to express himself more because he had the defensively-minded N’golo Kante and Blaise Matuidi alongside him.

I’m not sure if he can play in a midfield two – a midfield three allows him a licence to get forward more. There’s no doubt Pogba (left) is a talented player but to bring the best out of his talent you’ve got to support him with players who will allow him to express himself.

Last season some of his passing didn’t come off – he is prepared to try things – and suddenly your confidence drains and people are getting on your back.

What was also clouding the issue were the snippets coming out about his agent offering Pogba to other clubs.

That suggested he wasn’t 100 per cent happy with the way he was being used. It will probably be different this season if he is allowed to build on what he produced during the World Cup finals.
