Brother’s Regency murder kicked off bloody feud
THE murder of Liam Byrne’s brother David sparked Ireland’s bloodiest gang feud. He was gunned down by gangsters dressed as armed gardai at a boxing weigh-in at the Regency Hotel in North Dublin in February 2016.
The intended target was crime boss Christy “Dapper Don” Kinhan’s son Daniel. The brutal shooting was seen as retaliation by the Hutch gang for the murder of Gary Hutch, an associate of both groups and a nephew of Gerry “The Monk” Hutch, in Spain the previous year.
