The 58-year-old, from Belfast, took to social media to tell fans he’s suffering from shingles, which is an infection of an individual nerve and the skin surface.

Symptoms include a burning pain, inflammation and a blistering skin rash. It’s caused by the same virus as chickenpox and an episode can last from two to four weeks.”

The TV star shared a close-up picture of his painful swollen and blistered face and wrote alongside it: “I know I look as though I’ve been in a scrap but honestly I haven’t. It’s worse than that – it’s shingles.”

His followers immediately flooded the post with their well wishes, telling him to feel better soon. One wrote: “Oh no it’s awful I’ve had shingles twice in my face it’s awful.” A second shared: “Aww no! I’m sure @ruthlangsford will take good care of you xx get well soon.”while a third added: “I feel your pain!! I have shingles as well. wouldn’t wish the pain on anyone. wishing you a speedy recovery.” It’s unclear who will replace popular Eamonn on This Morning as regular hosts Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield are enjoying a joint family holiday in Portugal. Last week fans of the show feared it was the end of Ruth and Eamonn when she took to the ITV studio with a new presenting partner – Rylan Clark-neal. The couple have been on the TV together for around 12 years, since Eamonn took over hosting This Morning from Phillip on Fridays.
