GUARDIOLA’S STILL HUNGRY FOR SUCCESS

-

PEP GUARDIOLA has revealed how he is driven by the fear of failure.

The Manchester City boss ripped up the Premier League record books as the Blues romped to the title last season.

But, as Guardiola looked forward to today’s Community Shield clash with Chelsea at Wembley, the Catalan admitted how his dread of being defeated keeps him “starving” for success.

Guardiola said: “I am ready, I am ready. From my point of view, the players don’t have to be worried. I am ready to fight again.

“The fear to lose games makes me starving and hungry again. I really don’t like the feeling to lose games. It is not good for any manager around the world, so all managers try to avoid that.

“When you lose a game, you feel guilty, you feel bad. Your private life is not good, your relationship with the players is not good – that’s why you want to avoid that.

“Just that simple fear of losing a game makes you hungry.”

City were paid £10million by Amazon last season for unrestricted access to the inner workings of the club as Guardiola became the first manager in English top-flight history to win 100 points.

Clips of a documentary that will be released later this month have been made available to the public.

One brief insight shows Guardiola angrily addressing his players in the dressing room. “Some of you play better when you are angry with me,” he shouts. “So if you hate me, then hate me.”

Guardiola, who has won an incredible 23 trophies in just a decade of coaching with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and City, insisted making friends with his players is low on his list of priorities when it comes to the business of winning trophies.

And of the TV programme he added: “Last season was one season when the cameras were inside all year.

“I don’t know what they were filming and what they want to show.

“I don’t know what is in it. But last season was so good in general - so I was kind to my players.”
