€250m for weedkill man with cancer
HOMEBASE is reviewing its weedkiller products after a US manufacturer was ordered to pay a man with terminal cancer £226million in compo.
School groundsman Dewayne Johnson, 46, used large amounts of Roundup – made by Monsanto and containing the world’s most widely used herbicide, glyphosate.
He sued and a jury found the firm did not give adequate health warnings. Monsanto will appeal.
Monsanto chief Scott Part-ridge said: “It is totally safe.”
The jury in San Francisco heard Dewayne was diagnosed with nonhodgkin lymphoma in 2014 after using Roundup and a similar Monsanto product, Ranger Pro.
