Pell’s GPS helps Wil find way

MANUEL PELLEGRINI hopes to help Jack Wilshere get back to his best and into the England squad by keeping a close eye on his workload – with the help of a GPS tracker.

Wilshere joined West Ham on a free transfer, but was one of the headline arrivals in a near £100million, nine-player summer spree.

He signed for the club he supported as a boy for a fresh start after injuries prevented him fulfilling his potential at Arsenal.

Ahead of Wilshere’s Hammers league debut at Liverpool today, Pellegrini said: “If the injuries respect him, alone he will make the difference.

“We are always talking to him. Maybe he will not work exactly the same as the rest of the squad.

“He’s a young player and knows his body and I hope he will be fit for the most part of the season.

“Every day we have the players on the GPS and we know the most amount of metres that he does before he has a rest.

“So that – with the fitness coach and the sports science – will manage his work. We are working the best way with the medical department.”

Wilshere’s summer also featured the setback of missing out on England’s World Cup squad.

But Pellegrini said: “I think he can be an England player again, yes.

“The technical players make the difference and Jack is the type of special player that does different things. So if he continues playing every weekend, his performance will be better.

“I’m sure that he will have an option to return to the England squad.”
