DJ Gareth to step down in health fight
Gareth O’callaghan RADIO host Gareth O’callaghan is stepping down from Classics Hits after being diagnosed with a rare disease.
In an email addressed to colleagues, O’callaghan, 57, said he has multiple system atrophy, a neurodegenerative disease that destroys the body’s central nervous system.
He added: “Sadly it is incurable and progressive,
“I won’t back down. Time to do battle with this beast and fight it for as long as I can.”
The former RTE radio presenter said he wanted “to concentrate on doing some of the things I’ve always wanted to do”.
