Actor Shane Casey us. Being the girls I didn’t think they would notice us so much but the reaction has been unbelievable, fantastic.”

Both she and co-star Jennifer Barry, who plays her sister Siobhan, are 17-year-old schoolgirls in real life going into sixth class.

Jennifer, from West Cork, said: “The little first years are more scared of me now than before.

“They think I’m really Siobhan but I’m not really that scary. Everyone has been very supportive.”

Demi has taken a lot of teasing for the snogging scene in the last episode when Conor finally drew up the courage to kiss her. She added: “What you were feeling when you saw it is what we were feeling when we were filming.

“I rang my mam and said I finally did it, I finally did the manky, snotty kiss that everyone has been waiting for me to do.”

Demi, who says she now regularly gets beeped or saluted in her native Mallow, Co Cork, said she was even “ambushed” by fans while travelling to the Canaries on holiday.

She added: “A few of them were not even Irish, a lot were Welsh or Scottish and a few Americans noticed me. I thought it’s after going across the ocean. It’s fantastic.”
