Reveller with hippy crack in San Antonio in Spain is booming, with €24million of cannabis, cocaine and MDMA seized by detectives on the Costa Del Sol on Friday. Along the harbour in Ibiza on Thursday night we were offered Class A drugs three times in 15 minutes. Balloons filled with “hippy crack” nitrous oxide, illegal in the UK, are also openly sold. Some say problems are made worse by a new 3am curfew for bars and clubs to cut disturbance in the town centre. Revellers then flock to more remote areas, where there is less security. Ex-ibiza police chief Juan Pantaleoni, 56, who owns the Soul City bar, said: “It’s impossible for the police to protect all the promenade, all the small squares.” The bar’s British manager Julian Cobby, 52, said: “When we kick people out at 3am they’ll head towards the promenade. They’re making a beach party down there, with nearly every criminal that happens to be around free to go into that crowd and do whatever they want. In my opinion lives are being put at risk.” The San Antonio town hall said: “Most of the deaths are accidents and to date only comprise two attributable to violence.” The Foreign Office said it works closely with authorities and tourism chiefs on safety. ■
