More hell raising to come from me

-

My “healthcare week” started off with my blood test to see if my prostate cancer is on the march again as it has been held at bay for longer than average.

Next it was off to a physio as I have a bit of muscle pain left over from my race in Spain a few weeks ago. If you have never experienced a deep tissue massage all I can say is that you must never ever compare it with a spa massage. Painful does not do it justice!

My monthly trip for Chinese medicine followed with acupuncture – some of those needles are pretty long and my impression of Hellraiser means I dare not move for an hour in fear of pushing the needles in further.

I guess much of my pain is due to my running and, as I have a race in September in Albania, I needed rabies and anti-tick injections too. I recall at school when everyone seemed scared about the BCG injection, now I seem to be someone’s pin cushion all too regularly.

Wednesday was Russian Roulette day, with the results of Mondays blood test. The score had deteriorated a tiny bit but not enough to worry me, so I have another month when I can try to forget about cancer (hard as that is). Then finally it was time for my threemonthly pellet injection into my belly, which cuts off the cancer food supply a bit. The needle is comparatively huge as the implant is not small but it’s another necessary evil.

What gets me through weeks like this is the smiling, caring doctors, nurses and practitioners who are always so positive and professional. Their attitude and skill makes my life so much better, so I say thank you and smile at every opportunity. I hope that if ever you need them that you do the same – in my eyes they are the real heroes.

Until next week,

Thanks to jabs and treatment, I seem to be someone’s pin cushion all too often
